A WORD TO THE WISE: Proverbs 28: 1 "The Bold and the Brave"

Proverbs 28: 1     The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.

Proverbs 28: 1. Why does Batman dress like a bat? Besides the fact that he chose the name “Batman,” it’s because bats are scary; and as Bruce Wayne, the master detective deduced that criminals, especially violent career criminals are at heart--- cowards.

Thousands of years before the first Batman comic was penned, the super-wise, real-life King Solomon deduced the same thing.

A lifestyle of sin = a lifestyle of fear

There is the persistent dread of being discovered and punished.  There is the constant fear that someone will do to them what they have done to others.  There is the terror of dying and facing an uncertain or an all too certain afterlife. And, right alongside the fear of death is the fear that life will go on as peacelessly as so long has.

But, when you have a saving relationship with Jesus, and you live without contradiction to that faith, then you’re not afraid anymore.

When God’s forgiveness grants you peace with the ghost of your past, then you don’t worry about what skeletons others may see though the open door of your former closet.

When the Holy Spirit lives within you, you realize that the worst thing, the very worst thing that someone can do to you is kill you and immediately send you to the very best thing that could happen to you.

That state of being evokes courage.

You can face sickness, injury, threats, and tragedy with the assertion that to live is to serve Jesus Christ and to die is to gain Heaven.  It’s a bold win-win proposition.
